The big addition planed for 2025 is the creation of an acid/peat bog area. The soil at the arboretum is naturally basic and many of the acid loving plants cannot be grown in it. Such plants include blueberries, Labrador Tea, leatherleaf, and pitcher plants.
To create the bog, an area will be dug out to a depth of about 2 feet, then lined with plastic that will hold the water, but not be entirely waterproof. This will be covered with sphagnum peat moss.
The current planned area will be approximately 30 feet by 15 feet and located in the area outlined in red above.
